Rebetika can be defined as the musical state of life. Sometimes a sweet however often bitter kind of music. The lyrics reflected their surroundings, poverty, pain, drug addiction, police oppression, prison, unrequited love, betrayal and hashish.
Rebetika is the common story of two different nations, uniting two different shores of the Aegean. Sometimes the songs talked about the sadness of the period and sometimes the joy. In our program, we talked about the common times between Greek music and Turkish music. We talked about how these common musical cultures separated from each other.
