Each year, we celebrate the ocean, its importance in our life, and the ways of protecting it. The Ocean Project has promoted and coordinated World Oceans Day globally since 2002 with a team based in the US and volunteers from all around the world. Participating in a World Oceans Day event or activity is significant for us to make sure that our ocean would stay healthy for future generations. By the support of several events on this day, people’s perspective may change when they start to think about what ocean means to them and what it has to offer to all of us with hopes of conserving it for present and the future generations. They can discover the wealth of diverse and beautiful ocean creatures and habitats, how our daily actions affect them, and how we are all interconnected. Last but not least, whether they live around inland or on the coast, humanity is all connected to the ocean. World Oceans Day is a good opportunity for people to take their time to think about how the ocean affects the humanity, and how people affect the ocean.
This year, the main focus of the action is to prevent plastic pollution and encourage solutions for a healthy ocean. In more than 40 countries, the events have already started. Also when in connection with the people who have no time to attend events like this, there are some things that they can do. For this very reason, I would also like to share some information about the following action to create awareness, at least in the circle of your own friends.
This campaign is organised to create awareness about plastic pollution and to reduce the amount of people that are using plastic. You can participate to the challenge by taking a selfie with a tool that you have decided to use instead of its plastic version. Share it on your social media accounts and be a part of the solution!
