According to UNICEF, an estimated 151 million children around the world are victims of child labor. To get this reality out of the shadows, the ARSIS organization organized a performance on one of Thessaloniki’s main streets: Agias Sofias, on Thursday 16th of January.
The participants, with white masks on their faces as an allegory of child labor, offered packs of tissues to passersby.
These white-faced ‘children’ were moved like puppets, by a black-faced ‘system’ with stilts that forced them to work for ‘him’.
The discomfort of the people who came across this performance on the street was remarkable; looking away to a reality that surrounds us.
